QUANTITATIVE ELASTOGRAPHY with SUPERSONIC SHEAR IMAGING of 724 BREAST TUMORS, Dr THU NGUYEN DUY, Dr HUNG NGUYEN THIEN, Dr HAI PHAN THANH

Abstract: Applying the shear wave elastography (SWE) of Supersonic Imagine on breast ultrasonography in Medic Medical Center, HCMC, Vietnam from November 2009 to November 2010. It was a descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective study in comparison the SWE to conventional ultrasonography, mammography and biopsy (FNA and core biopsy).

There were 724 breast tumors with 568 benign tumors (78%) and 156 malignant tumors (22%). The elastic score (ES)   of  benign group was in range from 04 to 45kPa with elastic ratio from 0.7 to 4.6, ES cut-off value  of benign tumor was under 20kPa. And elastic score from 22 to 300kPa with elastic ratio from 3.3 to 26.4 for the malignant group, ES cut-off value  of malignant tumor was over 70 kPa. Authors noted that the sensibility and specifility of results were improved when adding shear wave properties and BI-RADS classification into the criteria of evaluation.
